What is a Mutual Aid Center?

Kindred Souls Mutual Aid Center & Thrift is a place where voluntary, collaborative exchanges of resources and services for common benefit take place amongst community members to overcome social, economic, and political barriers to meeting common needs. This can include resources like food, clothing, and services like meal programmes to education and trade and hobby classes. Our Mutual Aid Center is focused on the daily needs of our community, and working towards the goal of every one in need will have the chance to thrive. Our Mutual Aid Center is also focused on creating programs where we can offer job opportunities to the people of the community and help promote small business and local artisans to help them be successful in today's economy . Our mission is to look after each other, help and support each other the best way we can. We aim to empower people through solidarity rather than charity.

Our Projects for 2024

Brian's Wish Project (Comrade Connection)

May 2024

Brian's Dream is a project that we are very deeply involved in because it is dedicated to a great man and a great Marine who is no longer with us. His name is Cpl. Brian Ruggero and he passed away in a motorcycle accident a few years ago. Brian had a great love for life and brought a smile into every room and heart he entered. One of Brians passions was to help his fellow Veterans who were in need. His last birthday wish was to donate his birthday money to the homeless Veterans. We want to continue on in Brian's name and help out our Veterans in the Jacksonville community. With our project it will be conducted by volunteers and will be maintained through donations from the great people and businesses of this community.

We are not a medical or mental health professional team, we are just caring neighbors helping each other with small gestures to make life more enjoyable and maintainable. All services to our Veterans will be free of charge and will include friendly visits, help around the home, help with cooking, pet care, shopping, small house repair and maintenance or even just a chat and a cup of coffee. We want our Veterans to know that we are here for them when in need and whenever they need support the most. These visits will include home visits, hospital & hospice visits and care facilities. We would like to have bi-weekly visits for all our Veterans that will be conducted by the help of our great volunteers.

Organic Farm Stand June 2024

Happies Veggie Ranch is now a part of Kindred Souls United Community AId Center. We will have a farm stand available in mid June 2024. The farm stand will have all organic and pesticide free vegetables and herbs available for the local community. These are available free to those in need, if you are not in need please purchase the vegetables at a very small price and all proceeds go to the Community Aid Center.

If you are a local baker or crafter and you would like to sell or donate to our stand please contact us for more information.
